Catering For Students with Diverse Learning Needs
Our Role as Teachers
We as teachers are
continually changing the way they teach and resources to effectively meet
the needs of all students and help them exceed to the best of their ability.
Role of ICT
Technology today has
the flexibility to help cater students’ needs through a variety of different
apps, software, equipment and other communication devices. Multiple
Intelligence theorists Howard
Gardener, believes that students are categorised into 7 different ways they
learn. Here I have broken them down into the main 3 ways students learn, visual
learner (learn by watching), auditory learner (learn by hearing) or
kinaesthetic learner (learning by doing).
How ???
Here are some explicit
examples of how ICT applications support the varying learning styles.
(by clicking the title of each ICT resource will give you access to more information)
How ICT can caters for Visual Learners
Interactive
whiteboard
- Allows students individually and as a class to visually engage with to interrupt their learning and understanding.
Laptops/ computers
- Allows students to work independently through visually accessing educational resources to gather and interrupt their learning. e.g. Microsoft word, PowerPoint, excel, internet, etc.
IPad
- Where students can visually engage and have access to over 65,000 educational apps.
Digital Cameras
- Allows students to take images and visually gather information to develop and record their understanding.

How ICT can cater for Auditory Leaners
Podcaster
- Allows teachers to record information and give it back to students in an audio form for them to play back.
IPod/ MP3 player
- is a tool where students can download information or lectures and then listen to.
IPad
- Where students can download educational apps such as I-books to read and listen to online books and resources
Laptops/ computers
- Allows students to work independently through accessing educational resources that allow for students to access or create auditory programs

How ICT can caters for Kinaesthetic Learners
Interactive whiteboard
- Allows students individually and as a class to physically engage with to develop their knowledge and understanding
Digital Cameras
- Allows students to take images of and to physically gather information to interpret their learning.
IPad
- Where students can engage in and have access to over 65,000 educational apps, which involve physical movement.
