Meeting the Needs of 21st Century Learners !!!
Do you Remember this? ...
Or what about from this angle ?..
Well.. Take a step into the 21st Century Education...
Where students are exploring, creating, interacting and engaging in their learning.
Today, Information Communication and Technology (ICTs) are infiltrated
into classrooms each day around the world. why?
Times have Changed....
"Today's digital kids think of ICT as something akin to oxygen; they expect it, it's what they breathe and it's how they live."
~ Learning in a Digital Age.

The 21st Century LearnersWe are now
living in the 21st century or better described as a technological
world, where information and communication technologies (ICT) are fundamental
to day to day activities.
Take a moment to think how much you rely on technology each day , for instance, how do you get to and from work each day? or how do you keep in contact with family that live in another state or country? Technology has basically altered the way we live and work as well as how we learn. As educators it is our duty to prepare students for success in today’s world as well for in the future. In preparing students for work and jobs in the 21st century, we as educators need to firstly prepare students with 21st century skills that will help achieve this. Skills such as, learning how to use ICT, higher order thinking, communication skills and group work skills are all essential. So.. Why students need to learn 21st century skills Simply to prepare students for future jobs, skills for living and dealing with real life problems we face each day. |
Did you Know ? |
How ICT can help develop these skills, through meeting the needs of the 21st century learner.
ICT offers the potential to provide students with new ways to develop these skills such as, problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills. Watch this video below, which gives you a real life example on how different tools of ICT can develop these skills. This video also illustrates how we as educators can incorporate an array of ICT devices into the classroom to enhance students learning. This video is created by the students from ‘Feildcrest Elementary School’. As you watch this clip, you can see the difference of students attitudes towards traditional teaching (teacher at the front of classroom, getting the students to regurgitate the information back to the teacher, out aloud) to the 21st century teaching (where the students are using an array to ICTs to engage and explore their learning).
Did
you hear of new ICT devices that you have never heard of before?
Did you notice how students responded to these resources?
Did you see how students were collaboratively identifying problems with their peers using online resources?
Did you notice examples of students using web-based forums/ blogs which allowed students and their peers to interact and communicate with people around the world?

In Conclusion.....
In your own time, please take the time to watch this video ' A day made of glass Montage'. This video illustrates what the future may hold for your children.
